Palmilla Golf Club Cabo San Lucas
The One & Only Palmilla Golf Club is the 27-hole golf course, at the Palmilla resort was the first Jack Nicklaus Signature layout in Mexico on 900 acres of dramatic oceanfront desert. The Palmilla Golf course in Cabo San Lucas is known for its wide fairways, gentle slopes, and large, challenging greens and many excellent views. It was host to the 1997 PGA Senior Slam and is regarded as one of the busiest golf courses around Cabo San Lucas requiring an advance booking. The Palmilla Golf club is a semiprivate Golf club, with most hotels and resorts having membership benefits. The long term plan is to have golf course open exclusively open to the members and the residents of the adjacent real estate development. Palmilla Golf Course is targeted golf course constructed with strategy in mind. LayoutDesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1992, the Palmilla Golf Course had originally 18 holes which are commonly known as the "Arroyo". The front eight holes although do not have the famous ocean view although offering a great play. The ninth ends in a spectacular style finishing toward the beach. Then next nine could be played either along the mountain or along the sea. It is worthwhile playing the mountain holes if you are playing for the first time. The Jack Nicklaus signature hole is Mountain 5, challenging you to hit over a canyon coming down to the green below. A mountaintop clubhouse provides spectacular views. On golf course there is a 72-room Hotel Palmilla overlooking Sea of Cortez and the Sierra Laguna Mountain. The Arroyo/Mountain course was first to open at his resort. This 6939-yards par - 72 layout, which winds through the desert terrain and around arroyos in the foothills above the hotel, is a target layout by the sea. Virtually every hole offers view of the ocean but it is arroyo desert landscape and the lucky terrain you will have to contend with. The tees of this Bermuda grass layout are often elevated and proved a clear view of the hole at hand. And often you'll be offered a choice of whether to attempt the hero shot or try a more conservative approach. Hole DescriptionThe Arroyo 9: It measure 3337 yards. Hole 2 offers the choice of playing two fairways. The left is more convenient for big hitters but a bit of precision is required as it has bunkers to the left and desert to the right. The right fairway is a bit longer to the green but safer. The putting surface are a bit tricky and sometimes difficult to read. Hole 8th is another difficult hole with par 3 243 yards going towards the Sea of Cortez. The Mountain 9: It measures 3602 yards. Hole 5 on mountain nine is among the most challenging - a dog-leg right par -4 having an island of green fairway surrounded by rocks and sand. The Ocean 9: It measures 3512 yards. Two of its holes, the 465-yard par-4 third and the 162-yard par-3 sixth are near the sea. The par 5s, the 533-yard fifth and the 500-yard ninth provide some relief from tough par 4s, the third and the 460-yard second, and the 235-yard par-3 fourth. SummaryOverall, the Palmilla is a golfing retreat for any golfer although a bit challenging for the handicap golfer. |
