True Luxury for Less Money

Los Cabos has 3 world class and renowned resorts that provide unsurpassed luxury accommodations and services: Las Ventanas, Esperanza and the One & Only Palmilla. The last two have residential communities close to them that provide similar levels of accommodations to visitors wanting the privacy and intimacy of a villa rather than a hotel.

In Palmilla case the name actually includes not only the hotel but also several residential communities. Sun Cabo has been privileged to be the only agency allowed to promote Villas del Mar since the formation of the community's rental program. These homes became an easy sell for anyone looking for excellent service, accommodations, and resort amenities that were provided by the opening of Club 96, the residents' beach club. The only barrier for some was the price as a typical 3 bedroom started at $2800.00 per night plus 14% tax.

Now another option is available at less than half the price in Punta Ballena (Whale Point) which is adjacent to the Auberge Resort of Esperanza. These new homes are 4 to 6 bedroom with access to their own beach club (view from which is shown in the picture). The beach club has a restaurant and bar, spa and fitness equipment and the best views of Lands End, the very tip of the Baja in Cabo San Lucas. The view is even better in January, February and March as the hump back whales begin their migration to Alaska and Northern British Columbia.

Please check out the Sun Cabo Vacations website for these new additions to the largest selection of true luxury villas:

Luxury Real Estate in Cabo

The economy in Los Cabos was given some good news in the last few weeks. Much of the story for Real Estate development in2009 has been of postponements, slow downs, even temporary halts but three projects provided more positive news.

The Vista Serena Group announced its plans for the area on the corridor between Santa Maria Bay and San Viudas beach, including the site where the old popular Twin Dolphin used to stand. This $700 million development project will encompass 1300 acres and feature a 154 suite hotel and convention center with an 18-hole golf course plus 94 residential lots.

AMResorts have also been in the news this week by confimring their plans to proceed with a luxurious 32 suite booutique hotel inside their Casa del Mar resort. The Zoetry Casa del Mar will be operated and promoted under the Sap and Wellness brand of the same name, Zoetry. The plans show 4 new swimming pools, in addition to the spa and fitness center and new restaurants. An all-incusive package is to be available for guests and hopes are to have everything ready for December 2009.

While construction has slowed and in some cases ceased this has not been the case with Quivira, many visitors to Los Cabos will not be aware of this ultra-luxury development as it is located on the Pacific side north of Sunset Beach. Covering 1850 acres the development will be the home of the long awaited Ritz Carlton hotel, 2 Nicklaus designed golf courses and provide private homes. Prices are to start in the $4 million range with home owners fees around $4000 per month so the intent is to compete with the home buyers looking at options in Palmilla, Querencia, and Puerto Los Cabos. What it also suggests is that while the economy in North America and the world as a whole is suffering the long term prospects for Los Cabos remain strong in the long term.

Affordable Golf in Cabo

Los Cabos has often been called the Latin Palm Springs and until the recent drop in tourism to Mexico had about the same prices as Palm Springs too.  That is changing dramatically as one of our favorite courses just dropped their pricing today.

Palmilla Golf Course has introduced new rates for the rest of the summer and early fall.  Nonmembers can now play this Jack Nicklaus designed course for $140.00 plus tax but even better is the newly re-introduced twilight rate which is effective for rounds started after 11.00am.  The twilight fee is only $80.00 plus tax which makes one of the best courses in Los Cabos also the most affordable.

With two new courses coming online and the already open Campestre and Puerto Los Cabos courses also competing for their share of the golf tourist market it looks like golf rates will continue to be reasonable in Los Cabos.
