Mexico Travel Advisory Update
Recently, A number of customers have been asking whether it's still safe to travel to Mexico. While there have been some problem areas reported on the news, generally these are not associated with tourist areas, such as Los Cabos.
The incidents reported on CNN news are occuring in the border towns of Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez. Most of the incidents in these areas are among the Mexican population, but there have been some American's that have been involved. In any case, travel to these border towns is not recommended.
Fortunately, these areas are nowhere near the towns of Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo. In fact, Los Cabos is so far out of the way and remotely isolated that the 10th APEC summit of Asia Pacific Country leaders was held in Los Cabos because of the very secure nature of the area. There is only one main highway down the Baja. It is 1000 miles from Tijuana and the San Diego border and takes at least 2 full days to drive. More if you like to stop along the way and enjoy some of the friendly Mexican culture.
Have a look at the map below. The border towns have been highlighted which is where all of the conflict is occuring. This is due mostly to the drug trade which is flowing up from Central America, through mainland Mexico and then on up to the United States. Los Cabos couldn't be more out of the way if they tried!
In short, it's business as usual in Sunny Los Cabos! In fact because of the economy and negative press things have slowed down, it's actually BETTER to go now. You will find many GREAT deals on villas, condos and everything else. Once you're in town the local businesses will compete for your tourist dollar.
