Cabo del Sol Ocean Cabo San Lucas Golf Course has been the site of the Senior PGA Senior Slam of Golf event. It is one of the Jack Nicklaus signature golf course opened in 1994. Cabo del Sol Ocean golf course is quite near the Palmilla Golf Club. The golf course consists of the 18-hole ocean course at Cabo del Sol resort and is quite known for its challenging three finishing holes. Cabo del Sol, a formidable 7037-yard par-72 Jack Nicklaus design within an 1800-acre golf course residential development on the Sea of Cortez, has seven holes bordering the sea including three memorable finishing holes. It is the second Jack Nicklaus course constructed in Los Cabos. Its dramatic finishing oceanside holes make it much more difficult than the Palmilla course with less room for error. This is challenging target golf, with numerous forced carriers - even from the red tees.

Hole Description

Seven holes are along the water. The signature hole is 17, which runs by the water with a forced carry. The first hole is a wide welcome hole with a nice par 4 up hill. The second hole is in the shape of the dogleg par 5 with wash area from the tee box. The third hole is an easy short par 4 with good opportunity for scoring a birdie. The fifth hole par 4 goes into the ocean along with the sixth hole par 3 also along the ocean. It is advisable to avoid the left as the shot could land up in water or the stony beach.

The seventh hole is very much the same as sixth par 3 along the ocean. Both the holes are one of its kind offering incredible playing experience. The next holes offer a challenging play with the 436-yard par-4 eighth and the 467-yard par-4 ninth which goes back to the clubhouse up the hill from the sea. The 445-yard par-4 six-tenth plays out of the foothills down to a deep green with water on the horizon. The tee shot must carry and avoid bunkers to the right of the ample landing area.

The next shot (twelfth) is downhill and must avoid severe drop-offs to the left, right and rear of the green. The tee shot on the 173-yard par-3 seventeenth is from a cliffside perch over the beach and down to a green cut into a hill and guarded by blackened rocks. To your right is the Bay of Whales and the white dots onto the sand below are golf balls that didn't have the right stuff. The shot to the right will tumble toward the sea below.

The tenth offers great play but the eleventh is bit more special. It is the Nicklaus signature with his patented split design. In order to reach the fairway which is 220 yards from the tee one has to get past the wash & sand. The hole no 13 par 3 is really intimidating hole and may be regarded as one of toughest par 3 holes. The next holes 14 & 15 are great holes too but 16th hole is worthwhile mentioning. According to Jack Nicklaus the 16, 17 & 18 holes are "THE 3 BEST FINISHING HOLES IN ALL OF GOLF". Hole 16 finishes toward the Sea of Cortez. It is unimaginable inexpressible site from this hole worth bringing the camera along. Hole 17 par 3 is the course's signature hole famously known as "the Pebble Beach hole of Cabo".

Although it appears challenging it is worth playing this world class hole. A word of caution not to play right as the ball might land on the beach. Finally, the hole 18th hole finished off in incredible Nicklaus style dogleg right par 5.
