El Dorado Golf El Dorado is another Jack Nicklaus signature golf course located in Cabo San Lucas. El Dorado, the most popular course at Cabo Real, is a links-style course in the Scottish tradition built in 1999. The El Dorado is nestled in between the Las Ventanas resort Cabo El Dorado Golf Courseand the exclusive One & Only Palmilla next to Westin Regina hotel at Cabo Real.

This is an 18-hole desert course that boasts 4 lakes and 5 holes adjacent to the ocean. The layout is challenging - it extends on both sides of the Transpeninsular Highway and features 6 oceanfront holes on the Sea of Cortez. The remaining 12 holes are carved out in 2 pristine canyons with beautiful trees, cacti and rock formations. It has some very difficult terrain that even low-handicappers will find a challenge.

Layout

The El Dorado is reputed to be a mild course but is by no means easy. The 80 bunkers will test your patience and stamina, and the warm gusts off the Sea of Cortez can make for a tricky round! The ocean view holes are not the only water; manmade lakes are also part of the scenery. El Dorado distinguishes itself as the "Pebble Beach of Baja" as Cabo del Sol. El Dorado is the second championship course in the Cabo Real development. The 18 - hole, par-72 course features six oceanfront holes; the rest are carved out of two picturesque canyons surrounded by trees, cacti, and rock formations. Six holes designed around the four lakes. This 7,050-yard course has been called the finest course in Mexico and one of the best in the world. The course is designed in a way to incorporate everything a golfer wishes to experience in his play - excellent tees leading to beautiful fairways and receptive greens for iron shots.

Hole Description

The entire course is meticulously designed and is a pleasure to play. Earlier the golf course also boosted of beautiful beachfront holes but now are converted to resorts. The golf course have areas of rough and lots of sand including drainage ditches fifty yard wide. A few holes had very narrow passageways to the green, including one right along the Sea of Cortez, which looked to be only about three yards wide, over large boulders. Although as you would approach towards the green you would a large concealed landing area which is invisible from the tee. If a shot is hit to the left side of the green the ball may roll over to the foot of the hole and provide a chance for birdie. The other holes are in the barren mountains with no luxury homes as borders, and only the birds for music. It had its own rugged beauty.

Summary

Overall the golf course is quite a challenge to play with lots of sand. There is a nice practice range, club house and restaurant which afford views of sea of cortez and the ninth and the 19th hole. The spectacular clubhouse has excellent manicured practice area and comfortable relaxation & lunch facilities. The clubhouse is very modern and right on a cliff overlooking the Sea of Cortez, with an airy outdoor veranda for relaxing after a round of challenging golf. Indoors, the Pro Shop is well equipped and stocked with golf attire, clubs, balls and priced very reasonably. One could rent the clubs for around $30.
